Fair! Yes, I've learned that no matter how 'accessible' you try to make deck construction, it does require a certain level of commitment which isn't easy to come by when so many folk might not even play a given game more than once!
Maybe 3 evenings? Each game is 30-ish minutes but folk need time for deck construction. One evening for folk to learn and play a game or two. One evening for folk to bring constructed decks and play a couple of games. A 3rd evening to have a small tournament. (Maybe 3 rounds with 4 players?)
Deck building (mid-game) and deck construction (pre-game) are very different experiences imo. I personally really like the DCG experience, but the CCG/TCG business model (and even the number of cards in most LCGs/ECGs) make it so you can't really explore the possibility space freely imo.
Are you a fan of deck construction games?
I printed 54 copies last week but it's still at the playtesting stage. I think I have 35 copies left, and I am willing to send a few copies out for people who will get a few friends together for deck construction, a bunch of plays, and feedback.
Completed creatures can attack to crumble castles. (Victory!) Contraptions create currency. Currency casts spells or creature connectors (or helps you run your contraptions or add more-expensive connectors). Creatures and contraptions are never combined, but separate things.
Cards usually have 3 functions. One side is a contraption or creature connection. Combine it with existing creations. Hence overlapping cards. The other side is usually a spell. Cast it to help yourself/disrupt your opponent. Finally, most cards can be discarded for one single resource.
Lol, I was being slightly tongue-in-cheek. I assume you are not ACTUALLY frightened by the illustrations. :-) (Please let me know either way.) I have tried to avoid spidery things since I understand arachnophobia is kinda common. I wasn't aiming for a sea-faring map vibe, but love that result!
My main goal was to make a deck construction game where you can realistically buy (and study) the entire card pool, even when it's been out for a few years. I'd expect there to be more cards if it is released and it grows but probably like 1% of how many cards MtG has. :-p
Lol, this comment has me honestly beaming. ^_^
