It’s genuinely a matter of time before we see insurers backing out of Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia due to “increased claims” and loss ratios especially considering in the last year one company lost like $1.68 for every $1 in written premiums. Which is like…billions in losses.

this year I’ve seen more and more insurance companies back out of states like California, North & South Carolina, florida, Georgia, etc than I think ever before and it’s crazy because there’s so many people who can’t even afford the alternatives they’re offered.

And I should say, NFIP is already handling flood insurance but this doesn’t really make a difference in areas with increased earth quakes due to things like fracking or states where fire hazards have increased, tornadoes are becoming more frequent, etc.

As someone who works in insurance currently I couldn’t agree with you more. It’s not just coastal areas anymore, it’s everywhere. Insurers backing out of specific states isn’t changing their overall risk or claims ratios at all at this point. At some point the government will need to do something
