I wish we could go back to the days when the news divisions didn’t have to make money. #HATM

What I remember is the big debate between Star Wars vs. Close Encounters of the Third Kind. It was thing - the action movie vs. the cerebral one. I thought Close Encounters was boring. But critics LOVED it. #hatm

Also, if you are interested in reading an account of the gathering in Washington, DC recounted here, Jim Lovell's book Lost Moon (with Jeffrey Kluger) is a great source. He was also there on January 27, 1967, dealing with the confusion and grief. #HATM

The surprise is not that three American's died in the race to the Moon, but that ONLY three died. Compare to the Neidlin explosion in 1960 where at least 54 people died. Then there was Komarov's death on Soyuz 1, not even two months after Apollo 1. #HATM

I like that this scene captures the intense motion of the Gemini-Titan launch vehicle. Many astronauts rode both the Titan and Saturn launch vehicles, and many remarked that the Saturn provided a much smoother ride. In comparison, the Titan felt like it was moving across potholes in the sky. #HATM

“Let’s make Buzz Aldrin a total dick and cast creepy-ass Corey Stoll to play him.” — the filmmakers. #HATM

The astronauts were doing the most dangerous job in the world. No one would sell them life insurance. This is why they autographed so much stuff: it could be sold and provide for their families just in case. #hatm

Claire's lines here came out of a discussion Janet had once. Yes, being a test pilot was an extremely dangerous job. We must do The Right Stuff someday. It deals with this more extensively. #hatm

It's def important to understand how much the Cold War drove the moon race. Beating the Russians was the driving force, everything else was bonus. The SovUn was beating the US at orbital stuff. So we changed the playing field and made them chase us to the moon. #HATM
