Cringes in Middle Class
No breakfast at the travelodge so it's a seafront bacon butty from Costa for me.
The party stop for second breakfast at a McDonalds Services. "I miss Little Chefs." Says Merry, prodding at a cold McMuffin. "With the Olympic breakfast!" "Whatever happened to them?" Asks Frodo. "They're all sex shops now." Strider replies, mournfully eating a soggy hash brown.

I think some stuff is definitely made with the intent to "say something" or try and redefine a genre/medium/form. Not always successfully but inviting the conversation and it's worth debating them on their own terms. Agree totally that really you need time to assess properly, though.
I get the temptation, right. I'd love to think that some of the material my big old geek heart loves is important and timely but it isn't. Sometimes it captures a zeitgeist, or something is genuinely, actually great and worthy but mostly it's just entertainment and that's totally fine.
I mean, King of Comedy was already pretty great so yes probably. Would have made less money though, for sure.
We really need to stop trying to put cultural weight on content that isn't built to hold it.
