I think the big pieces are "we have to respect that people do not want to leave their homes" and how that matches with "we have evaluated that this location is just too dangerous"

I don't think it's about if the endorsement moves voters, but about what the endorser represents for the various communities that like him.

I think this is ultimately the great tragedy of organized religion, at least for the last 100 years or so, and without a lot of really optimistic signs for the future.
