My review of the new Eureka Blu-ray release of "Pandora's Box" has been published by POP MATTERS. The film stars Louise Brooks, though my review shines a spotlight on the errors made in the bonus material which accompanies this otherwise recommended release. www.popmatters.com/pandoras-box...
File this under all roads lead to Louise Brooks . . . Happy birthday to actor Matt Frewer (who played the legendary character Max Headroom) . . . Matt Frewer --> Max Headroom --> The Lotus Eaters --> Louise Brooks. louisebrookssociety.blogspot.com/2024/01/happ...
One book I received for Xmas is "Młoda Polska" - a multi-lingual art book about Polish fin de siecle art. Its title translates as "Young Poland," which was the name of the modernist period in Polish visual arts, literature and music between the years between 1890 and 1918.
Some of the year end treats purchased at our local East European market -- Berlin Rye, herring, curly sausage, Polish butter, pickled cherry tomatoes, wafer cookies, etc... This store has a whole section devoted to pickles (oh my) and cabbages as big as basketballs. Happy holidays to one and all.
My review of the new Blu-ray release of "The Spanish Dancer" (1923) from Milestone was just published by Film International. The film stars the always wonderful Pola Negri. Check it out at filmint.nu/herbert-bren...
"Pandora's Box" and "Diary of a Lost Girl" are available to stream on Kanopy, which is available through many local and university libraries.
I am looking forward to seeing "The Eagle" (1925), starring Rudolph Valentino, Vilma Banky, and Louise Dresser at the San Francisco Silent Film Festival. Also looking forward to hearing Donna Hill's introduction to the film. silentfilm.org/event/the-ea...
