I’ve been watching some of the coverage, frightening looking. I was in NC when tropical storm Debby came through and that was scary enough.

We had a flock of Steller’s that were yard regulars when we lived in Seattle, so much fun

I sold bird seed for over a decade too! My go to is hulled sunflower seeds, less messy than whole seeds and everybody likes it. I did use whole sunflower seeds in a feeder where the mess wasn’t an issue. Peanuts for the jays

It’s because your bird feed mix has lots of millet in it which they don’t particularly like, so they are looking for the good stuff. Kinda like eating the marshmallows, first out of your lucky charms. :)

I was spoiled by living in Toronto for a time, regional trains, subway, street cars and buses. We owned a car but really only took it to grocery shop and go out of town.

in WA we would get some intergrades and even an occasional yellow-shafted in fall migration, but they were pretty well all Red-shafted there.

When we first moved out I was quite shocked that a city the size of Seattle didn’t have a train system. The original plan was to live in the city proper and take the non-existent train to Microsoft. We got a place within biking distance on the Eastside
