The gameplay was supposedly quite good, if they’d just kept the servers running it probably would have gained popularity over time. But instead they’re appearing to just completely cave to Gamergaters
I also believe something like this happened with the video game Concord. The marketing materials showcased the very worst designs in the game, and now they’re doing an unprecedented shutdown of the game servers. I feel like no AAA games company trying to do a good job would do that.
