Almost had a heart attack when I flew back into China via Hangzhou last year and thought Iโd lost my local SIM card (fortunately I found it deep at the bottom of my backpack) and was contemplating how exactly Iโd get home to Shanghai without mobile access - mission semi-impossible!
The last of the typhoon debris gets carted away. As impressive as Chinaโs shiny urban veneer may be, itโs the ready availability of guys with carts that keeps it all shipshape.
I only use it now to reply to Chinese football updates and take potshots at the lamentable state of The Shanghai Daily but I donโt think I can justify even that minimal a level of engagement any more.

If there's such a thing as the 'Shanghai Dream', its most common manifestation is a weary provincial guy driving his rented ride-hailing cab non-stop until he's saved up enough to get the hell out and back to his hometown.
