Yikes! Yeah, no amount of free food is worth that, and I *really* like free food. That is messed up, but in such a frighteningly believable way.
I was working at Borders Bookstore HQ at this time. They had a little side thing with music, but was still almost entirely focused on books. But this had the same impact as an Oprah Book Club announcement in getting everyone to scramble to support it.
The Moon maybe?
Beautiful, glorious madness. Guess you are onto something when people making fanart even before it's out!
Love it! Very nice lead in with being so peaceful and rather normal and then "What?" immediately followed by "WHAT?!!" đ
Have been back on survival mode a bit, but considering that substack post (of course it's on substack đ) I felt the need to come remind folks that trans authors writing SFF exist and are writing beautiful, fun, heartbreaking, funny, smart work.
Also, one is meeting the art where it is. The other is complaining how much it didn't match the preconceived imaginary version you personally wanted it to be. Even if it is hard to define, it is often incredibly apparent when it occurs. It is superficial & more interested in gotchas than engaging.
A very fun line!
Absolutely! Far too replies and quotes saying "I totally agree! Well, except for this specific instance (which is actually the exact kind of situation you are talking about but I'm going to pretend it isn't)."
Really stomach-turning to see E. Lily Yu's deeply transphobic substack post, and I encourage my trans siblings, particularly trans fems, not to bother reading any of it. It's nothing we haven't heard before, and it's presented in the same smug, pseudo-intellectual, self-righteous tone as always.
