NIMBYism is, and always will be, the heart of the problem.
And you know why "investors" are in the housing market? Because returns are great. Same reason we put our retirement savings into the stock market. The solution for housing affordability? Build more housing. It's a supply and demand problem, folks. Simple as that. But no one likes that answer.
In an attempt to counter the "immigrants are the cause of the affordable housing crisis" I see Robert Reich has trotted out the old "1 in 5 houses are bought by investors" trope to make it seem like big corporations are the problem. "Investors" includes anyone who doesn't live in the home full time.
I contend one is never too old for a good varsity jacket. But I've reached that age where I ignore people who try to tell me what's "appropriate" for older women, everyone has their own calculus.
This seems like an even more basic proposition than, "don't ask a question when you don't know how they'll answer."
