(all things considered i would rather my dad be living back in virginia instead of in a trailer park northwest of orlando and check in once ever 10-20 years over extreme weather than 3x every hurricane season)

that's kind of the hard part though. it does happen (the rain from hurricanes juan (1985) and hugo (1989) did a ton of damage in appalachia, it's just uncommon and unpredictable (though it could be becoming more common)

Drone footage of Hot Springs, NC. Really awful, this is such a nice town. Note the woody debris piled behind the small bridge. This will have blocked the flow, increasing the amount of water going through the town. This is common in big floods, but not often modeled. www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRW4...

OK...the NWS Bot collection is now fully populated and ready to go. I'm sure bugs will come up along the way, but I think it is 95%+ stable. There's an index page at nws-bot.us including a map (borrowed from NWS) to find the right bot for the area you want to follow.
