Having looked at it, I like the idea of specifically placing an additional tax on profits derived from mass automation of work - in current relevance is AI that replaces artists or drivers, but it generally feels right to support/expand UBI by drawing from the advances that drive the need for it.

Huh, looking online it does seem straightforward in that regard. While oil money isn't scalable altogether I do wonder if corporate taxes could be applied more broadly to achieve a similar effect. I imagine that when people say "just tax billionaires", they mean to tax their companies, too.

So rather than all-at-once UBI, a more constant pressure on the government to expand the pool of people who gain benefits

You raise a pertinent point, I'll have to look into where Alaska gets the money for its program from One angle is using UBI to replace social security and unemployment benefits. While there still may not be enough money there, it does raise the idea of lowering age or other requirements to qualify

Wonder if it wouldn't be possible to try and get like, ONE state on this Just, "congratulations Maine, you get UBI for a year, let's see what happens" Of course then I could imagine the billionaires and their lackeys actively sabotaging Maine to fuck with the results
