I didn’t even like A Confederacy of Dunces, but I have a happy memory of sitting out on my boyfriend’s porch on a pleasant day, reading it while I waited for him to come home. I actually started laughing, which I hadn’t really done up to that point. I won’t reread it, but I will remember that.

It's particularly telling that the article doesn't say a word about WHAT people are afraid to talk about. It also doesn't say WHERE. In person or online? If online, it's eminently sensible to shut up about certain things if you want to avoid getting the internet dropped on your head.
