That's why l like to reiterate that zoning is NOT a contract or a property rights. It's a regulation for the public good. A good that elected officials have the right to judge.
Of course most of that was abolished in England in the 1600s, and in France in 1789 (though mostly dormant already, I think)
Feudalism generally didn't have absolute property rights. "It's my castle and land, contingent on providing x many knights to my liege, under the following defined circumstances " if you were a peasant your tenure was even more conditional.
To the extent anyone's articulated a logic, it's "zoning is a promise, and yes, that gives me a property right in my neighbor's property and he has one in mine" it actually fits pretty well with feudalism, when you think about it.
Our local nimbys run on emotion, not property rights logic. Those are the votes she's looking for.
