#ADHDacceptance Day 2: What I love about being an ADHDer is... "Letting the dog off the leash." The near-manic high from intense focus on a preferred activity or absolute lack of inhibition when geeking out with other neurodivergent folks feels like a humming nuclear reactor inside me.

Dark gray graphic with blue-lettered list of 31 days of topics for ADHD Acceptance Month (apologies for not listing them all here).

#ADHDacceptance Day 31: Acceptance Means... Understand that most of what you know about any differences in humanity, from race to gender to neurotype to disability are misinformation from those in power... Then believe in HUMAN experiences and needs without judgement. Different =/= inferior.

#ADHDacceptance Day 30: Hyperfocus ADHD is not a cognitive or learning disability, nor is it care or motivation. Think of our brains as drag racers, designed to do The Thing very well. When we have a high-stimulus preferred task (brain chooses, not us), the resultant overdrive is called hyperfocus.

#ADHDacceptance Day 28: Favorite Memes It took years to realize that my folders of hundreds of memes and gifs was a self-accommodation emotive communication tool, so I'll stick to primarily ADHD-related memes here. (Also, although I have contradicting ideas about age, censorship upholds status quo)

#ADHDacceptance Day 28 Dealing With Boredom The same as another person might need an inhaler or insulin, I always ensure I have something with to keep my hands and mind occupied like fidgets & a small notepad. For an ADHDer, unaddressed boredom is almost physically painful, like yanking on nerves.

#ADHDacceptance Day 27: Identity Language There are two primary forms of address: ●Person-first (person with ADHD; attribute of person) ●Identity-first (ADHD person or ADHDer; integral to person's identity). The ADHD community is an (ironically) unstructured mix of takes on these, so always ask!

#ADHDacceptance Day 26: Favorite ADHD Book Percy Jackson books! Rick Riordan's depiction of powerful demigods being ADHD & dyslexic is amazing representation for kids. Characters do epic things, but even the best/strongest fidget, are impulsive, or can't pay attention when the quest gets boring.

#ADHDacceptance Day 25: Symbols A rainbow infinity represents all neurodiversity, & is molded to a butterfly for ADHD to symbolize the flitting nature of stimulus/executive function. Care must be taken with symbols because they can be made/used without community consent in abusive, ableist ways.

#ADHDacceptance Day 24: ADHD Political Issue Misinformation is rampant & weaponized for rage politics. This means a renewed push to demonize ADHD and its medications as fake, unnecessary, or caused by a list of unrelated environmental factors, leading to severe problems accessing dx and care.

#ADHDacceptance Day 23: I Can't Live Without... The neon white outline of a watch is permanently seared into my wrist. I don't just need to know what time it is. I need three alarms and a countdown timer to FUNCTION. My 20min is your hour and my capacity to underestimate time required is legend.
