just released vips-ffm version 1.0 🎉 many improvements including comprehensive libvips docs embedded on all operations and enums, testing across windows/linux/macos on amd64 and arm64, and early benchmarks show it's up to 35% faster than JNI-based alternatives www.lopcode.com/posts/2024/1...
I’m very happy to announce that, after lots of testing and improvement, vips-ffm is now version 1.0 🎉!
Folks, it has something to do with running an amd64 container in an arm64 environment. Runs in 5 seconds (rather than crashing) with Docker running on Ubuntu.

It features PC-relative addressing. In comparison, it took AMD to fix x86 by adding RIP-relative addressing in 1999 (first AMD64 chip in 2003).
amd64 is the name of the CPU architecture most modern CPUs are built upon. it's named after amd because amd was the first to introduce 64 bit processors so, don't worry, your intel chip is amd64 too
amd64が使える環境ではあるけどメモリが少ない状況ならx32の存在意義はあると自分は思ってるんだけどなあ。i386で動かすのはアレだけど、amd64で使うにはちょい重いかなー、という微妙な場合。 […]
