It's compulsory to change to winter tyres (stiffer rubber compound and different tread pattern) after a certain date. If you don't, and have an accident, the insurance won't pay out. There's also snow chains, but they're a bitch to use. But yeah, winter in the UK was always fun. :)
I could go on and on. Basically, when your plan requires stealth, a giant bird that can hardly carry you beyond a few leagues is gonna be a massive target. And that's all moot because WITHOUT GOLLUM THE RING CANNOT BE DESTROYED. Flying to Mordor = No Gollum to fall into Mt. Doom by accident.
