Many of us (I'd like to think) still see our universities as bastions against authoritarianism. But how quickly they can crumble.

Not sure this is an argument against the EU. Populists movements in Europe is not really a problem the EU can resolve or should resolve. I think the EU is potentially capable of tempering some of those tendencies and being involved also means having a voice on these important issues.

Easy. To criticize a country is to criticize it's GOVERNMENT. Not all Jews live in Israel. He has nothing against the Jewish people or even Israel civilians. Just the government actions regarding the war. Something the people have no say over. You can hate America and still like the people too.
