And I could have helped them with that! I actually think AML is pretty neat, especially now that I've done this job which involves investigating some pretty sketchy businesses, but having established my reputation as a medieval Arabic poetry expert is such an albatross around my neck.

I wonder if the design of the hydrofoils on the latest generation of Americas Cup yachts were based on the wings of an Albatross?

The Harris campaign is past the point of return to reject this endorsement but I hope *someone* in the campaign is starting to wonder why they're getting these ghouls to glom on to their campaign. Nobody that's still in office is doing this and I wonder if they're banking on being an albatross.

I'm thinking about when the GOP kept calling the ACA "Obamacare" in order to make it an albatross to hang around Obama's neck, and finally someone asked Obama what he thought about it, and he basically said "I don't mind if they want to give me credit for it."

Thinking about nature again

The ocean has become so riddled with plastics that albatross are mistaking it for food. They don’t have the necessary skills to distinguish between food and plastic debris, and plastics have slowly become more and more prevalent in places where food has always been and should be. The albatross eat it and bring it back to feed their offspring, who then starve to death with bellies full of garbage. I can’t help but think of that as a bleak metaphor for a media environment increasingly infested with lies.
