I'm not sure it's just the shift in funding, after the antiwar protests of the 1960s colleges across America invested extremely heavily in anti-protest infrastructure including changing the design of campus buildings and spaces to impede organizing. They've been preparing for half a century

Kind of hard to square "the power of antiwar protest is waning" with the fact that every institution in the country brought the hammers down on every single antiwar protest that happened this year. The powers being protested sure seem worried!

I'm antiwar, but humans are going to resolve things how humans have always resolved things: periods of abject horror in war, followed by a repulsion of war as a method of doing business. It's sad that it only took 4 generations to forget about the horror. That's how long war lasts.

Sticking with fantastic Asian rock/metal, Wagakki Band is easily my favorite Japanese band. Basically anyone who can shred on traditional instruments like this is hitting all of my happy buttons. The noh motif in this video and the antiwar lyrics make it even cooler. www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_xT...

Fun fact about me is I worked on an antiwar Green Party campaign against DeLauro back around the turn of the century. Few remember that she was quite hawkish on the Iraq war at first, our campaign was successful in moving her position on it.

A thread showing one way social media can be dangerous to you. A provocateur, taking advantage of an ordinary person's frustration about events, makes a semi-cloaked call for violence hoping you'll agree. Re: last night's thread on a NYC antiwar protest where police knocked a woman unconscious.

how much are they gonna do this before we defend ourselves?

Ok, let's get real for a second.

What do you mean by "defend ourselves?" What does that describe?

And how familiar are you with NYC policing? Do you understand how violent they are toward protesters?

Whatever would need to be done to prevent the protesters from being injured or killed, I would imagine.

I'm not much more familiar with NYC policing than in general

Bernie Sanders is supporting Momodou Taal who Cornell University has practically promised to deport for taking part in a noisy and nonviolent antiwar protest. I hope more pressure can be brought to bear on this absurd singling out of a sober, thoughtful Black Muslim student. x.com/BernieSander...

Bernie Sanders
@BernieSanders
It is appalling that Cornell University appears ready to deport an international student without regard for due process, simply because of their presence at a protest. It is wrong, and I urge the university to reverse course immediately.

Momodou Taal, who is attending the university with a F-1 visa, was suspended after a September 18 protest under a new policy seeking to quash Gaza solidarity actions.

Like, i would probably watch this movie/dream. Its a weird mishmash of genres and imagery with an antiwar/war is horror message with what would have been pretty wild practical effects and horror makeup. Idk

Will police be less vicious with antiwar protesters since the cop-mayor is being indicted? Nope! I've never seen this tactic. From behind on the sidewalk, driving bikes into people. Cops hit. Keep moving. Violence with no arrest = no paper trail. Isabelle L. does great work. x.com/isabelle_ley...

NYPD’s strategic response group bicycle squad riding their bikes into protestors from behind. No orders or warnings have been given by police, they’re just intermittently riding vehicles into people. First mopeds, now bikes.

video still shows a bike cop in a high viz vest on the sidewalk where he has driven into a small clump of protesters walking. On the video, we can see that, just after this image, he hits several people and merely rides away.
