A crypto couple being sued by the SEC for their crypto company. A piece of architectural history discarded when the Phillips brothers took their fortunes to Houston.

HeraSoft, the company the Blanchards founded and brought to Bartlesville, has shut down and Mr. Blanchard was just accused this month in a civil case brought by the Securities and Exchange Commission of defrauding investors in the company of more than $5 million. He has denied wrongdoing.

Four trade catalog covers, 1935 Source: Catalogs Collection, @archive.orgarchive.org/details/cata...

Skylines Beyond the Twilight Zone
Westinghouse Lamp Co.
Trenton, New Jersey

The catalog is a “discussion of modern principles and practice in floodlighting.” The use of “Twilight Zone” here refers to lighting that falls short of adequate and full illumination, a problem the catalog blames for forfeited architectural beauty and commercial disadvantages. The catalog cover is in alternating light green and dark green rectangles of varying sizes. One panel shows a nighttime skyscraper view. It is being lit by a lamp in the lower left, which casts a vivid, diagonal yellow beam across and off the page.
Unipak Wood Casements
Farley & Loetscher Mfg. Co.
Dubuque, Iowa

A simple cover in light brown with a series of progressively wider vertical stripes along the left edge. The title, company and location are lettered in thin, elegant deco-y type.
Hart Fireplace Fixtures
Hart Manufacturing Co.
Louisville, Kentucky

A beige cover depicting an illustration of a comfortable living room scene along the top. A glowing fire burns in the fireplace. In the foreground, on what would be the floor of the room, the words Hart Fireplace Fixtures appear diagonally across the cover in red, 3D block letters, with an unseen light source casting a shadow behind them.
Modern Radiation
Shaw-Perkins Manufacturing Co.
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

A light blue cover with the title in dark blue in the upper third. Three thin, wavy orange lines run vertically, suggesting rising heat. In a dark blue horizontal band in the lower third are the words Shaw-Perkins Convector-Radiators. An orange stripe containing the company name and location appears underneath.

Well, digital cameras are not really much older. In the 2000s, I had a friend who did arial photography (in planes and helicopters) on film. She has switched to architectural photography now.

It'd even more odd when Vancouver's architectural aesthetics actually are unique and of its own... identifiable landscapes and yet no actual identity

I think I'm with the C20 society in that, apart from the photographic record, we should save at least one set of cooling towers as part of our industrial, architectural heritage. They're collecting ideas for repurposing if you have any. c20society.org.uk/cooling-towers

Getting really into early Flemish lately, I've spent the last few hours staring at some of Jan van Eyck's work and wow the detail in something so old, the way he painted cloth and the incredibly architectural settings, and that early perspective use is so good. And those angel wings ahhhhhhhhhhh
