Drawing a Mario enemy from memory every day until Nintendo makes a Mario monster catcher game. Day 971 - Birdfish
Finally a small town I’ve been to. There is a great little brewery there called Birdfish.
Here in this little comic, we see the illuminous BirdFish; fish which are equipped with wing-like fins and beaks. And we see their abilities in action... As well as one other detail. #TurtleCatAndFriends#CobaltGray#BirdFish
Clowns know this. Musical composers know this. Good movie directors and dramaturgists know this. At some level. I learned it from a birdfish tree, which in turn learned it from how long people would keep looking at it if it did or did not do something, through trial and error.
... slow vs fast movements, beat vs rhythm, small (piano) movements vs large ones (forte) ... ... canons and fugues (birdfish imitating each other's moves in staggered sequence) ... themes and variations ... three-step climaxes, and sudden STOPs - All of this, to keep you interested & entertained.
By trial and error, the birdfish tree had reinvented the principles of choreography, dramaturgy & composition from scratch. I was thinking in terms of music then. I recognized homophony vs polyphony (all the birdfish doing something together vs groups or individuals doing their own thing)...
... & they were mesmerizing. A plaque explained how the thing worked : there was a camera hidden at eye level in the tree trunk, that tracked if there was a face looking at it. (Eyes are easy to recognize & have been for a while.) The birdfish danced to maximize the time you spent looking at them.
