🌍 Black-headed heron (Ardea melanocephala) 

Black-headed herons are large birds with a slender build, long neck, and legs. Their most striking feature is their dark, almost black heads, contrasting with a white throat and a grey body. They have a long, pointed beak and yellow eyes. They typically stalk shallow water, using their long legs to wade through mud and vegetation. Black-headed herons are primarily fish-eaters, but they also consume insects, amphibians, and small reptiles.

Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)

Distribution: Common throughout much of sub-Saharan Africa and Madagascar.
