Last time I was home, I brought all my books of Newfoundland folklore and ghost stories back to Korea with me (and picked up a few new ones from the bookstores in Corner Brook). What gets me is how specific these stories are about whose house has the weird creature living behind it.

McNally Robinson is an ok chain of independent bookstores, family run. The branch at Grant Park has some nice events and can be a nice place to hang. And while they aren't SFF focussed, I've gotten to see some fave authors in the genre there and they're great about getting hold of any book you need.

Today on #DidiToCanada, I looked up bookstores and the Winnipeg library system. The first was a bust. Doesn't seem to be a cool sff bookstore in Winnipeg. Or any. The second is very promising. Nice staff picks, and the main branch is fairly close to my potential apartment.

Exactly! And it does such a huge disservice to both the wonderful indie bookstores *in* Chicago AS WELL AS the other ones in the suburbs (of which I worked for one so it’s personal lol)

It's an epic serial that's been online since 2006, and in bookstores since 2011, and with the recent completion of the 44th novelette, we're just about halfway through. (Each novelette fits a 36-page zine; each volume contains 11 novelettes; two volumes make up a season; there will be 4 seasons.)

Low on my priority list at the moment. Working hard on getting into local indie bookstores.

In the last 4 hours, I've had tea in a lovely Japanese garden, narrowly escaped being hit by a bus, framed an art, visited 2 bookstores, been in a minor car crash, gotten excellent croissants, witnessed an 8 car armed police stand down, and bought a fancy heated toilet. San Francisco, ya'll.

The used bookstores in my dreams are so good, whether warehouse-like, a tiny cozy room, or a mall store.

Social media by authors and their friends and readers, or emails from publishers. I USED to find them in the university bookstores when such things existed. Sigh. ☹️ And maybe at conferences at book fairs but I’m not really doing that anymore.
