As @Bigrigtravels gears up for a second attempt to head home (his first time since 2018), he may wish to consult the Texas Language dictionary. If his GPS goes down (which does happen), let this highway map be your guide in getting to Santone. #Texas#Folk#Language#Linguistics

Front cover scan of a twenty-fourth edition printing (1996) of "Whut Makes You Thank Teksus Tawk Funny?" -- A dictionary of the Texas Language by Ken Rigsbee.
It depicts a partially coloured sketched tourist family (in brown, blue, and red), having pulled their luggage-ladden station wagon over, with both adults out of the vehicle, whilst a child and dog look out the back window, with their hands/paws up on the glass.
The "father" is speaking with a fully dressed cowboy, holding a "hot" branding iron towards his backside, whilst the inquiring tourist holds a nearly folded map of Texas.
The "mother" is holding a film camera, and is taking a photo of the cowboy talking to her husband.
The title of the book (in red text) is in a speech balloon above the overall scene, with it emanating from the cowboy.
Behind this relatively detailed forward scene, are simpler line sketches of a cattle rustler chasing stray animal on a galloping horse, whilst twirling a rope over his head. There is also a windmill and some rolling hills as another layer behind that portion.
Black and white scan of page 4, titled "The Grayte State uh TEKSUS", with a simplified map of Texas, that has most of the primary Interstate highways depicted.
All of the labelling for cities and the Interstates themselves are done in the Texas language.
For example: The interstates are referred to "Ah " followed by their corresponding number, such as "Thurdy Fav" (I35), "Fardy Fav" (I45), or "Teyun" (I10).
The capital of Texas (shown with a star) is "Awstun" (Austin), along with other places like "Big D" (Dallas), "Fowert Wurth" (Fort Worth), "Pairs" (Paris), "Useton" (Houston), and "Lahraydo" (Laredo), amongst several others.
The direction compass shows were "norwerth" is. The bordering states of "New Messyco" (New Mexico), "Oklahomuh" (Oklahoma), "Arkinsaw" (Arkansas), "Looseyanna" (Louisiana), plus "Ode Messyco" (Mexico) to the south, ("saowth") are also labelled.
Black and white scan of page 18 of "Whut Makes You Thank Teksuns Tawk Funny?" (1996), that has eight definitions (plus the pronunciation of the letter S itself ["ayus"]).
I have highlighted one S definition in yellow -- that of Santone , which is as follows:
Santone - a major city in south central Texas where the Alamo is located. "Shay's mah Santone rose." - (San Antonio).

The other definitions shown are:
reeyul - an adjective expressing conviction or magnitude. "Thet warder iz reeyul hard." - (real)

rilly ² - another form of "reeyul". "Thet chikun rilly duz smayul good." - (really)

rot - 1. the opposite of left 2. correct "Yew gist go down thet road till yew git tuh thuh fowerk, then take uh rot turn." - (right)

sahn - an indicator or director or information conveyor. "Them ducks flyin north [norwerth] izza sahn of Sprang." - (sign)

Saowth - that portion of the United States below the Mason-Dixon line, including Texas. "Hain't nuthun wrong with anybody whut comes from the Saowth." - (south)

sayud - past tense of "say". "Yew hurd whut Ah sayud, yew ain't dayuf" - (said)

sayul - 1. normally referring to a drastic reduction in price. 2. that which captures the wind on a certain type of boat by the same name. "Ah bought thet purdy red hat on sayul." (1. sale 2. sail, and sometimes 3. sell)
