From August: A Star

Thomas got his A-Level results via email in Amsterdam (or possibly en route to Budapest). Anyway, he got 'em, and he related via text message that he got all A-Stars. Reading the message on my phone, I give a delighted "Yowzah!"

I thought, just this once, three exclamation marks - normally the sure sign of an unsound mind - were called for. I laboriously type out "Congratulations!!!" with my big sausage fingers.

Sylvie went to the school to pick up the paper document. On returning, she held up a hefty hardback and explained, "They had this yearbook for him as well." Intrigued, I say, "Oh! These weren't even a thing when I was a lad. Let's have a look..."

I read his entry. There's a line in it which reads, "Favourite quote: Next time is next time. Now is now." I puzzle over the source - Confucius? Parker? Wilde? Chesterton?

I looked it up. It's from the Wim Wenders film Perfect Day.
