The oldest known dictionaries were Sumerian-Akkadian wordlists dating back to 2300 BCE, meaning the idea of a collection of words and their meanings is pretty damn old. I used to read the dictionary for fun as a child. Still do. ;) (2/2)

I have a few really lustworthy dictionaries - the Oxford Latin Dictionary is probably the best. Recently acquired the new Cambridge Greek Lexicon (2 vol) and it's another beauty.
I really want to already be on a stage in my Korean understanding where reading l isn't a problem even if I have to google stuff. I use Ecosia and I already check dictionaries and Wikipedia several times a month.
