Skipping the doctorate has always been the smart call in my situation, but good fucking luck getting a Sci 2+ role without one these days

I read a dissertation that earned some guy a PhD in the 50s that was literally 80% made up of quotations from unpublished letters by Louisa May Alcott. He went to the archive that had them, read them, summarized what they said, and earned a doctorate.

I liked it a lot, but it drives me crazy seeing influencers talk authoritatively about total nonsense. I feel nervous talking about a subject I have a doctorate in, and they're up here talking about dark empaths like they read research???

I do a lot of work with Business Schools . Full of Professors with no doctorate. It’s become a completely undermined title (by its own industry)

I knew a man who had only an MA and yet was a professor (though merely of the third class) in the university that journalist attended. One would need a doctorate these days to be taken on permanently in that institution as a painter.

It blows my mind when people try to convince other people that their opinion is correct by putting Ph.D. after their name without mentioning what discipline their doctorate is in, let alone the name of the university, as if those magic letters made them brilliant on all subjects.

I'd assume Banner just really didn't know which field he was interested in. After he got his first doctorate in Linguistics with an interesting thesis on Ancient Babylonian, he had a go at Literature, then was passing through the sociology department one day...

"It's a mural!" Where did your doctorate come from, one of those fake degree mills in the US?
