Oh totally! Of course there's nothing inherently wrong with direct/explicit instruction. Conscientious educators should do better than sell overly simplistic solutions to people who are using them for explicit ideological purposes.

I got blocked now twice by philosophers-in-training while explaining settled First Amendment law on free speech.
