NEW: NYC schools chancellor David Banks will step down early, on Oct. 16 rather than the end of the year. City Hall: "We have decided to accelerate the start date of Chancellor Aviles-Ramos ... so that she can immediately begin executing on her vision" of not being under federal investigation

"From day one, this administration has continued to prioritize the needs of our students. In advancing this mission, it became clear that our students will be best served by having the same leadership through as much of the school year as possible, rather than changing chancellors halfway through. We have decided to accelerate the start date of Chancellor Aviles-Ramos to October 16th so that she can immediately begin executing on her vision for New York City Public Schools. Chancellor Aviles-Ramos is a lifelong educator and public school veteran whose talent, experience, and compassion will lead the school system well through this next chapter. We thank Chancellor Banks for his service to the city and nearly one million public school children."

His wife is an educator I have worked closely with and is very good friends with a good friend of mine. 💔💔💔 Statement from his daughter:

My family and I are deeply moved by the outpouring of support and the countless messages we've received from family, friends, and strangers from around the world honoring my father's life. On Tuesday, October 1st, at 9:30 a.m., my father, Hajj Kamel Ahmad Jawad, returned to his Lord after being hot by an Israeli airstrike while trying to save innocent lives in his hometown of Nabatieh, Lebanon. People from across the globe have reached out to me and my family to send their condolences and share stories about how special a human he was. Additionally we've been approached by numerous news outlets and public figures seeking our comments. My father's story is not just about him; it's about a man who stood with the oppressed and dedicated his life to uplifting others. As my family grieves this significant loss, we ask for privacy. For now, we are declining media interviews, and I will share my only public remarks at his funeral service. (Alt text continued in comments)

Lol, I am too far from being a teenager, and I was never very good at being a teenager (other than emotional maturity) when I was a teen. But omfg my educator instincts have kicked into high gear now. Doesn't anyone teach the kids digital literacy these days?

Amanda Crowe (1928–2004) was an Eastern Band Cherokee woodcarver & educator. Her work has been widely exhibited and is held by a number of museums. She also dedicated much of her career to teaching and training the next generation of Eastern Cherokee artists.

Beautiful. Ah the wonderful barn owls, the hearing champions of the world. I was privileged to house a handicapped Barn owl for 10 years as a raptor rehabilitator and educator. Their feathers are the softest thing I have ever felt. 😎 🪶
