Once in, I loved grad school. Not every minute of course, but I got better and better as I went. My project was on the very hot topic of cyclodextrins as models for enzyme catalysis. I did some synthesis and loved learning physical organic and bioorganic chemistry. This is funny for 2 reasons.
I was fully expecting him to die because he got bitten by an inland taipan and the LD50 on their venom is *tiny*, at 0.025mg/kg on mice, and they inject 44mg of venom on the average bite and their venom is scary, it's got neurotoxins, hemotoxins, myotoxins, more, plus an enzyme to increase uptake
Arsenate reductase is a nifty enzyme, it uses pyranopterin cofactors coordinating a tungsten instead of molybdenum atom to do the dirty work. Most of the W-substituted members of the molybdoenzyme families are found in extremophiles!
