Oh yeah, I remember when FMV games were all the rage. Like you said, they weren’t bad, but I definitely didn’t want to play those kind of games all the time, and especially when that wasn’t the style of game you were expecting from the box art.
Not that FMV slop can't be fun. It was just disappointing as a kid to pick up a game, put it in my machine, and discover that the images on the back of the box were lies and the game is actually just a Dragon's-Lair-like with prerendered CGI FMVs.
I had one in the 90s and it was a struggle to find good games for it. Everything looked cool and promising but then 80% of the games were FMV slop or expensive ports of Genesis games with slightly better music. Its better today, when you can just emulate it and cherry pick the best games.
