A friend planted an earworm in my head earlier this week when posted a "now playing" pic of what is my favorite Procol Harum album: Shine On Brightly. Finally have a moment to spin it and am enjoying the well loved but still playable original rare UK pressing I found a few years back, which sounds so much better than the US edition, especially this promo copy (lower right).

The latter was made using the short lived automated "Haeco-CSG" process for mastering compatible mono/stereo (for AM & FM radio distribution) without having to make a dedicated mono mix and pressing (theoretically saving money, but possibly losing if poor sound negatively impacted DJ spins). This sounds wonky. I wonder if there are any US promos without the CSG process?
