New video about making it to the Chikyu, and having a first look around the ship: www.youtube.com/watch?v=piEs...#IODP#exp405#JTRACK

working on a proposal (going slower than I'd like 🫠) to work on the IODP Exp 400 (NW Greenland Margin) records and found this fantastic paper linking meltwater to downslope sedimentary processes/deposits — check out this map from 3D seismic of a paleo-seascape ⚒️🧪 www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Spent the day getting ready, packing, organizing Japanese entry requirements, trying to dot the i's and cross the t's of the various things JTRACK wants me to do before boarding the Chikyu on Friday. ⚒️
Hive mind: IODP data reports or Data in Brief? Data in Brief has a publication fee. Other journal alternatives for data reports of results without interpretation and without publication fees? Thx
The seabed drill ship “JOIDES Resolution” is being decommissioned this year with no sign of replacement, so it’s important to get the most out of the archived cores that contain the chemical and biological records of climate changes in Earth’s past (photo credit Shuhao Xie/IODP)
The 2nd remarkable result from Kasbohm et al is this is the first time high-precision radiometric dates have been applied successfully on *sediments* that have been drilled from beneath the ocean seabed. Those sediment cores are crucial climate archives, so this is a big deal. (photo credit IODP)
I am currently on IODP Expedition 405 studying the 2011 Tohoku earthquake. We are onboard the Chikyu, Japan’s scientific drilling vessel, for 2 months! I’m really grateful for this experience. y’all can follow along as I attempt to blog life onboard: www.catherinehross.com/community-ou...
