Signed an armful of books at Indigo Yorkdale yesterday. There’s something for everyone on your #kidlit#graphicnovel#middlegradebooks#PictureBook#IReadCanadian#IWriteCanadian#Canlit

Hopeless in Hope by Cree writer Wanda John-Kehewin is a pitch-perfect story about 14-yr-old Eva facing intergenerational trauma and finding a path to forgiveness, hope, and healing in her Indigenous family. Loved the moments of humour and Eva's voice. #kidlit#CanKidLit#CanYAlit#IReadCanadian 📚👍

I have nothing to do with creating the #IReadCanadian hashtag (tho I agree that it doesn't make clear it's focused on kidlit). There's probably already a 🇨🇦-focused literary hashtag out there already (prob on X) but I lack time to research what that might be.

A universal one now could be #ReadCanadian#IReadCanadian#CanadaReads is not about promoting Canadian authors but the CBC event. I don’t know of a universal hashtag to promote ALL Canadian books. We need one, for sure.

The #IReadCanadian#kidlit#KidsReadCanadian#IReadCanadian as the universal one it sounds like.

It’s a shame #IReadCanadian movement is limited to children’s books since it’s super hard to find good adult Canadian *stories* in the genres I read. I find the ones traditional publishers go for are boring and either “literary” or in the “ethnic ghetto” they like. Where are our Stouts & Christies?
