The Boy with the Red Jacket: From Lower Bavaria: During the Lessel night, a man and his boy went to the crossroads. He did not want to take the boy with him, but finally he relented to his son’s pleas. The boy was wearing a red jacket. When they arrived at the crossroads, the man used chalk to draw three circles around himself and his son. Suddenly, a gallows stood before them. The boy asked: “For whom is that?” “For the one with the red jacket!” was the reply, and the boy was gone. After the man had done his incantations, the Devil appeared and asked what he wanted. “What you have taken from me”, said the man. The Devil did not want to, but when the man insisted on his demand, he threw the corpse of the man’s son into the circle. Source: Panzer, F. Bayerische Sagen und Bräuche. Leona's love of ancient incantations seems to come from how he enjoys the challenge of deciphering them, so it is possible that both he and Malleus are capable of reading in dead languages. 8/10

Malleus' gift to Leona is a book on ancient incantations (Leona’s favorite subject at NRC), written in a dead language. Leona seems to recognize the language, the worth and topic of the book (“Even plain ol’ linguists would be champin’ at the bit to get their paws on it”). 7/10
