Woke up too early, did my mandatory monthly report for Jobseekers (which by the way ought to always be accompanied by a post-it note that says "there are STILL no jobs in my field"), might simply scoop out the eyeball that's making a break for it from my skull. I. AM. SO. WELL.

Yes, that’s partly why I’m encouraging people to include the date they left the place. The list is really a springboard for further enquiry by jobseekers.

I did think about sending this to The Times / Telegraph etc but it's not newsworthy or hooked to anything, just a good idea. I am enjoying the reverie that it got published and suddenly the /jobs redirect idea was normalised. Even Google is excerpting 'careers' into its info panels, if it finds one.

Sir, an idea to help jobseekers, careers advisors and businesses. Although an organisation's vacancies page might be clearly listed in an obvious menu item it's often the case that a bit of a quest is needed to uncover it. This is made even harder if you don't know whether the page has been labelled Careers, Work with us, Work for us, Opportunities, Employment, Join our team, Jobs, Vacancies or Recruitment. I suggest organisations ask their web person to set up a 'Jobs' redirect page. Anyone arriving at the website can then just type /jobs at the end of the homepage address to go straight to wherever they're currently hiding their vacancies page.

He should move to where there is an available job. Or take another job and retrain. Isn’t that the advice that they gave to jobseekers?

So in the model, immigration can adversely affects local workers (as Borjas argues) even when it does not affect local wages (as Card argues). This is because in that case, immigration raises the local unemployment rate and adversely affects local jobseekers.

Turns out that all the National Insurance you have paid since 1979 doesn't entitle you to Jobseekers Allowance, only the last 2 years when you were an (unpaid) Research Fellow at Scottish Government Not really insurance then is it?
