Been hopping between different cafés and restaurants all day. Stopped at a Shoprite afterwards and noticed an old synagogue peaking out from the trees from the parking lot. Crossed the street and found an urban environmental center with beautiful gardens.

An everything bagel with cream cheese, lox, tomatoes, red onion, capers, and Kalamata olives.
The Oheb Shalom Synagogue towers above the street trees around it.
A contrasting lush garden landscape of sun and shadows
A pond in the center of the gardens with a small bridge going over it.

c/w food. Made an awesome chickpea tagine thing that was so simple - fried diced carrot/celery/onion - added a tin of chickpeas and a tin of harissa from the Turkish shop, spoonful of honey, some cumin, salt/pepper, pickled mushrooms, pickled garlic then some kalamata olives thrown in at the end.

Sometimes you have a tough day and you decide to get a big impossibly sized calzone to make up the deficit

Our beautiful Icelandic Martini, fitty-fitty with Mazzini Dry Vermouth from Sardinia, the minerality of which we thought would balance that oily gin. We were right! 😁 Garnished with three Kalamata olives. Skál! #Cheers 🍸

Two cloudy Icelandic Martinis atop our bar, with the gin and vermouth bottles behind them, the olive pick garnish submerged in the drinks. Backlit by our mahogany-framed glass tile bar lamp.
A closeup of one of our Icelandic Martinis, the three Kalamata olives on a cocktail pick balanced on the rim of the glass.

Shrimp Saganaki last night. It’s all Greek to me (literally) but was easy and tasty: shrimp cooked in a rich tomato sauce, topped with grilled and crumbled feta, Kalamata olives, and fresh mint. YUM! 😋

A close-up image of a dish of Shrimp Saganaki, featuring a rich tomato sauce with chunks of tomatoes and herbs. The sauce is garnished with crumbled feta cheese and sliced black olives, adding a contrast of white and dark colors to the red sauce. Fresh green herbs are sprinkled on top for added color and flavor. The shrimp is not visible as it is covered by the sauce.

On a small round marble table sits a large charcuterie board containing a generous serve of three kinds of cured meat, pieces whole grain bread, and small bowls of Kalamata olives, gherkins, chutney, and perhaps the last one is mustard? In a lowball glass is an old fashioned. And on an iPad is Margaret Simons’ biography of Penny Wong.
