Joyful Trains often run to beautiful or interesting destinations — the two steam trains that run from Takasaki in Gunma go to a tiny onsen town and a outdoor railway heritage museum. I reckon the best (and most accessible for visitors) are run by JR East and JR Kyushu in those regions.
