It was a real pleasure to attend a drinks reception yesterday in honour of Sir Peter Bottomley who has been a staunch supporter of Leasehold reform. He always acknowledges the work we (NLC) & LKP do to free leaseholders from this feudal money grabbing system. Still lots to do - onwards and upwards.

“The remaining 35 years on Trump’s leasehold in the Financial District tower is worth about $116 million. That’s $2 million less than the estimated $118 million Trump owes on his mortgage.” Explain again why they trust him with the economy? www.forbes.com/sites/zachev...

Massive shot in the dark i realise but does anyone know a good law firm for dealing with leasehold disputes?

Thank you for the offer, there's definitely an article here waiting to be written, but I simply don't have the time at the moment. Our building is currently being remediated (combustible cladding) and I'm up to my neck in emails dealing with that, plus the general everyday nightmares of leasehold.

Interesting, and very technical, changes happening within Shared Ownership. Post Renter's Rights Act they will be legally treated as leasehold for purposes of arrears recovery. As noted by others current situation is a bit of a mess.

Thanks, very interesting. I take the point made about leasehold flats data from @annaclarke.bsky.social but this research (showing 43% ex-council in PRS, if I understood correctly) and common sense - houses generally sold more than flats under RTB - does nothing to undermine the 40% figure.

the NEF study is definitely based on leasehold FOIs. Only study I'm aware of that's looked at houses (and matched quite detailed RTB and LHA data) is this one on Renfrewshire, which is perhaps not the most representative geography (and no longer has RTB!): eprints.gla.ac.uk/69908/1/id69...
