The thing with voting vs. not-voting is that it's mostly about emotions, of course. To exaggerate, it's I AM REALLY DISGUSTED BY THE CHOICES PRESENTED TO ME vs. HOW DARE YOU ALLOW THAT MONSTER TO TAKE OFFICE THROUGH NEGLIGENCE. You can't change minds because it is so deeply rooted in emotions.

Unfortunately when your physical form and identity are well known, they will insert predisposed notions into the minds of others who consider those things to be relevant. Your nationality, your gender, your clothes, your appearance. Only way to fight it is to be as inscrutable as possible, I guess.
