Marie Lenormand's influence occured on the cusp of modern occultism. Often, however, the Rider-Waite-Smith and Thoth decks are perceived as the icons of modern tarot. Let's start with Rider-Waite-Smith, which was published in 1909. #WitchyWednesday

And of course, the hippie movement and nazis share historical roots in the Austro-Bavarian Völkisch Bewegung, who were into things like yoga, drugs, vikings, occultism, walking in the forest, ecology, organic food, nudism and vegetarianism and all that. Austrian emigres in California inspired Beat.

More conversions of old stuff I've written to the current Starfinder 2 playtest rules. In this case, a couple of the weirder weapon concepts.

Starfinder Second Edition stat block

Price: 45 credits; Damage: 1d6 whimsy; Bulk: L

Integrating an energy projector rendered unstable by fey influence, whimsy pistols are surprisingly practical in a wide array of situtations… provided the weapon co-operates.
Text Description

Whimsy: The first time each round you attack with a weapon with this trait, roll a d8 to determine the weapon’s damage type and which weapon group it belongs to for that round: 1 — acid, corrosive; 2 — bludgeoning, projectile; 3 — cold, cryo; 4 — electricity, shock; 5 — fire, laser; 6 — mental, mental; 7 — poison, poison; 8 — sonic, sonic. Until the start of your next turn, all attacks with the weapon deal damage of that damage type and the weapon is considered to be in that weapon group. This affects only the weapon’s normal damage, not additional damage from weapon upgrades.

I really enjoyed this interview with Jenn Jordan of the Turn the Page podcast, in which we discuss Nazi occultism, queer culture in 1940s Paris, and other things related to researching and writing The Tapestry of Time. turnthepage.blubrry.net/2024/09/26/t...

it is for this reason that I have taken to reading about occultism under the third reich along with its general legal practitioners! Seeing the recurring pattern from free masonry and back again is… something! Behemoth by Franz Leopold Neumann was an interesting find in all of this.

1. SACRED SONGS by Daryl Hall (and Robert Fripp) Did you know that Daryl Hall recorded an Aleister Crowley-themed album? Occultism: it’s not just for metal heads anymore! Favorite tracks: “Babs and Babs,” “NYCNY”
