Did some awesome upgrades over the years. The final systems were PC hardware that ran the pdp11 instruction set and connected to plant interfaces that were installed and commissioned in the late 70s. Also commissioned system that controlled the delivery of fresh water to the west side of Baghdad
I think the computer at my first job was a pdp11, or that might have been the one at uni. The guys in the computing department were very keen for me to join them for some reason. 🤔 And they were all guys.
Artists, show me your most popular artwork! (This one lives as a meme elsewhere that reminds people to check their backups every Friday)
I've been here a little while, but with Cohost shutting down, I'm doing my best to reconnect with eggbug enthusiasts and maybe also grow my following a bit. I'm a furry artist, but I do other stuff like level design, and I work as the 2D Lead for Duke Nukem Forever 2001. #HeyCohost#gamedev#furry
First computer l used was one of these at Sunderland polytechnic in the 70s I programmed in Fortran then. First PC I used was the Osborne with a 5inch monochrome screen and two floppy drives, one to load the os I think!
My first year at University was the last year the computer science department required us to use punch cards. I think it was a PDP11?
You know there was paper tape right? (I bootstrapped a PDP11 using the panel switches to key in a papertape reader function, which then read in more of the software via the tape, which enabled more functionality and voila, a working machine.) Kids today. Etc.
I read about the PET in Computer Weekly, and converted some of the Basic listings on to our school DEC PDP11. My first computer was a 48k ZX Spectrum with the rubber keyboard, followed by an Atari ST and then the most amazing Amiga 500, surely the best personal computer ever made.
