It’s not quite as grand these days, but Penzance station will always have a special place in my heart. The end of the line and the start of many brilliant memories.

No. The Penzance one was just a phone snap! I tend to use an Olympus Tough for my wildflower ones. Easy light and focus adjustments then press the shutter. Little skill required!

What you probably want to do is end the true high-speed at Plymouth and build a new Tamar Bridge and then a new 100-125mph line to Penzance, which is then not tied to a 4km turning radius and can follow the terrain. Then it can stop a sensible number of times in Cornwall

It's a high speed line. Your stops after Brum are Bristol, maybe somewhere in Somerset, Exeter, Plymouth, maybe one more in Cornwall and Penzance if you go that far. Total.

I sang a tenor role aged 16: Frederic in Pirates of Penzance (all female production). Sung as set 😁. I may have been shorter than my leading lady - they had to put me in boots with a chunky heel and her in ballet bumps - but at least I sang lower!

Quick out and back to Bristol from Bath. The Penzance train set back to run via Westbury to avoid a line closure.

The Bristol Avon from the train at Saltford.

Polgoon Vineyard in Penzance is a fab example of a small enterprise getting things right. Amazing products (please try the elderflower cider), and a gorgeous little restaurant and shop. Flying the St Pirran flag.

Basically every egregious show of athleticism that Kevin Kline does as Pirate King in the film version of Pirates of Penzance, but especially the lunges.
