I absolutely LOVED Design for Living (1933), a polyamorous love story about a woman who falls in love with two men. It’s glamorous, it’s funny, it sort of avoids talking about sex by invoking a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ but this is clearly not stuck to…I love it! My favourite #PreCodeApril this year!!

Best Picture Winner Cavalcade (1933) was next for #PreCodeApril! Undoubtedly glorious in scale and ambition, it was surprisingly tepid in plot and character. Some parts were funny (esp the future planning on a boat on 14th April 1912…) but it mostly didn’t spend enough time in each historic period!

It’s the last few days of #PreCodeApril and I haven’t updated this list for a while! I’ve seen Blonde Crazy from 1931, an excellent con artist caper that was the perfect vehicle for James Cagney’s slightly smarmy charm who has great chemistry with Joan Blondell!

The Gay Divorcee (1934) had potentially the most dated plot of any film I’ve watched this #PreCodeApril with Ginger Rogers needing to be caught with another man to validate her divorce! It’s as a hilarious screwball comedy and the dancing is fabulous. It’s a bit anti-sex worker though…

Watching Hook, Line And Sinker More double beds for the boys in this Wheeler and Woolsey #precodeApril .They run a hotel, front it as a high class joint with an excellent safe, and then fill up with thieves.As usual with W&W there's a verbal zingers but also has a solid slapstick shootout at the end
