Oops, forgot to post these nice examples of Mediterranean Revival, Art Deco, and Midcentury Modern styles in Galewood.

For #bookshopday I give you a former bookshop in St Andrews. J & G Innes's closed down in the last year, and was much loved as book shop, newsagent and stationers. A lovely building too.

J & G Innes Ltd shop in St Andrews, Fife, on the corner of Church Street and South Street. Three-storey and attic corner building, in stone with dark brown old-fashioned shopfront. A niche at first floor level has a statue in it, the corner has a timber oriel window. All very oldee-worldee
J & G Innes shop expanded into the next-door single-storey building: the Christian Institute inscribed on the frieze. The three-bay building has a balustrade with a central gable treated as a broken pediment with an oculus and carved scroll decoration, the shopfront has leaded clerestorey lighting, iron columns, recessed doorway.

One of the worst things is that the seating is recessed. Old place was right on top of the field, which was a competitive advantage. Just completely destroyed that.

A portable television, in a very 'space age' case: the top is ivory but the sides and frontispiece are cherry red. Twin antenna sprout from the back, a silver tilted carry handle sprouts from the top, and a huge silver grille allows both airflow and speaker. There are a bare minimum of controls on the top of the device itself: an on/off push toggle, a silver tuning dial, a rotary display behind a glass window for current station, and recessed plastic wheels for h-hold, v-hold, brightness, and volume.

the local supplier must have been out of recessed can lights, so they convinced the original owner to buy their supply of chandeliers.
