English corrupts the pronunciation of other languages to a quite frankly hilarious degree. Like, take the word "Nidhogg," referring to the dragon of Norse mythology. Most people would pronounce it in a way that rhymes with "hedgehog" but the proper pronunciation is closer to rhyming with "hamburger"
