Chinatown // San Francisco Chinatown was a MOOD tonight; I had to walk off my dinner from Sam Wo and was grateful for all the familiar places.

Numerous lanterns and flags are strung across Waverly between the Hop Sing Tong and Gee Tuck / Sam Tuck Association. The effect, against the narrow sky left between the relatively tall buildings lining the narrow street, is dazzling.

Staring into the sunset, looking west along Jackson from near Spofford. The mist has thickened the sunlight into something you can sink your teeth into.

View north along Stockton from the tunnel top, just south of Sacramento. The wires strung over the street support the trolleybuses lined up to take passengers out of Chinatown.

The profusion of signs and colors lining Ross Alley are mostly in Chinese with some English. Just ask for someone to point you to the fortune cookie factory, you'll find it.

Part of the reason is that pursuing an override would be a humiliation for a governor, particularly one of the same party.

“I don’t think that when your governor is in power that you want to publicly embarrass or potentially weaken them by overriding a veto,” said Chris Micheli, a lobbyist who has worked in Sacramento since Republican Pete Wilson was governor.
