"You were flirting with me?" Nie Huaisang snapped his fan shut. "I was flirting with you since the first day, and I showed you that book for a reason, Jiang Wanyin." "Oh," Jiang Cheng says, sheepishly. "I've never been very good at romance." Nie Huaisang purses his lips. "Clearly not." Jiang Cheng pours more alcohol for Nie Huaisang. "I'm sorry," he says. "You _did_ know that the matchmakers blacklisted me?" "I'm sure they had very good reasons to." Nie Huaisang sounds annoyed, but jc is certain amusement is starting to seep through.

The elegant man sitting across from him was no longer the boy he'd known, but Jiang Cheng could still find traces of the boy in him, in the city smile he still hid behind his fan, in the slant of his head and especially in the way he made Jiang Cheng feel, on these rare occasions when they could spend time together and put away their duties and the realities of their lives. Jiang Cheng raised his eyes to find Nie Huaisang's waiting to meet his. The other man smiled wistfully. "Perhaps you won't welcome me saying it," Nie Huaisang told him softly. "But I remember my first kiss with someone I liked." "Yeah, right," Jiang Cheng scoffed, a reflex more than anything, even as he felt hope beat wildly in his chest.
"Please don't be like that, Wanyin. I'm being perfectly sincere." And Jiang Cheng wasn't really certain what to do with that statement, how to even begin to unpack those words. So he tore his eyes away. "I'm sorry it was disappointing" Nie Huaisang sighed. "I've made you uncomfortable. I shouldn't have said anything, but for a moment I hoped..." he laughed softly but there no mirth in it. To Jiang Cheng's horror, Nie Huaisang put his hands together and bowed to him. "It was foolish of me. Please forgive my indiscretion, your friendship means the world to me, and I have anyways understood that that moment was a youthful impulse for you."

Huaisang needs some extra model drawings to pass his drawing class. Maybe he was sick for a couple of weeks there and now needs to catch up or his teacher is super picky. Huaisang has asked almost all of his friends to pose for him. All except Jiang Cheng. Jiang Cheng is bitter about it. He doesn't know the only reason Huaisang hasn't asked him is because he has a huge crush on him.
